The following workshops will be
offered in my studio, in Glenside, PA:
Japanese Stab Bound books
January 12, 2008 (Saturday) 10 am -1pm
($50 - including all supplies)
These lovely books have very decorative stitched spines.
They can be used as notebooks, can house prints, photographs
or original artworks. There are so many options available to you
with stab binding. You will learn the simple patterns, we'll
brainstorm a bit and have plenty of time to create a personal
project.
I've used white washed magazine pages, vellum
and colored paper in the text block of this book.
There will be many paper choices available to you. In addition, you may
want to bring photcopies of your own artwork or photographs, favorite decorative
papers or any sort of ephemera.
Acrylic Painting with Glazes
- February 2, 10 am - 5 pm (in case of bad weather, February 9) - we'll take a
one hour lunch break.
$80 for one 6-hour class (includes lunch).

Using a combination of materials - gesso, pencil, charcoal, collage, and acrylic
paints, we will build a painting from the ground up. Techniques will cover
composition, color mixing and creating values and colors with glazes.
Coptic Stitch Books
- Saturday, March 29, 2008; 1-5
pm
$60, includes all papers and supplies.
Create
a journal to keep or as a special gift using the coptic stitch. This
ancient stitch is perfect for creating journals as it allows
the book to lie flat when it is
opened. Come learn my method
of creating this stitch using pairs of needles.
More examples of coptic bound.
What to Bring : I will have all
supplies for you to use, however
You may want to bring your own decorative paper for the cover. It should be a
heavier paper or can be backed with a heavier paper or card stock. One sheet
(approx. 22x30 or "parent size") is ample.
If you have bookbinder's tools such as awl or bonefolder or particular color
of waxed linen threads you enjoy, you are welcome to bring them.
